What’s the history of the Autism Bookstore?

The Autism Bookstore is a division of the Autism Society of North Carolina (ASNC) and all proceeds from book sales benefit its programs and services. ASNC is committed to providing support and promoting opportunities which enhance the lives of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

Over the past 20 years the Autism Bookstore has grown to become the largest nonprofit ASD-specific bookstore in the United States. Representing every major autism publisher, the Autism Bookstore is the most convenient place to find the very best autism resources.

Can I get book recommendations for my unique situation?

Yes, our knowledgeable staff is ready to help you find the right book for your situation and answer any questions you may have about the books we carry. Our staff is happy to assist you by phone, 800-442-2762, M-F 8am-4pm (EST) or e-mail: books@autismsociety-nc.org

How can I order books and what forms of payment do you accept?

Online: Our entire bookstore collection can be viewed at our website – www.autismbookstore.com. We will ship your order to any destination worldwide. We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover on our website.

Phone and Mail-In Orders: To order by phone, call 800-442-2762 and ask for the bookstore. We accept credit card payment over the phone and mail-in orders with a check. If you wish to mail-in a check, please call for further instructions.

Purchase Orders: We gladly accept official school purchase orders. You can fax your school’s purchase order to: 919-743-0208 – Attn: Bookstore

We cannot accept purchase orders over the phone or internet at this time.

International Wire Transfer: We’re happy to facilitate your wire transfer from a foreign country, including creating accurate pro forma invoices. Please contact the bookstore for more information about wire transfers.

What are your shipping rates?

North Carolina orders: 10% of your subtotal
Out-of-State US orders: 15% of your subtotal
International Orders (including Mexico and Canada): 30% of your subtotal

Discounted shipping will be allocated on a prorated scale to orders over $500. If you have questions about our shipping rates please call 800-442-2762.

How long until my order ships?

Website orders are generally shipped within 48 hours. Exceptions to this rule only occur when website inventory levels reach 1 or less copies in-stock. If there is a problem with your order, we will contact you within 48 hours via telephone or email. If you require rush shipping, please contact us for a quote.

School purchase orders and bulk orders (7 or more of a single title) will be fulfilled within 2 week, we will contact you via telephone or email if more time is necessary.

What is the Bookstore’s return policy?

The Autism Bookstore offers a 14-day return policy (from date of purchase) on books and media, merchandise (t-shirts & bags) cannot be returned. Customers must contact us for a return authorization, and they can request an exchange or a refund (refunds do not include shipping charges). All books must be returned in saleable condition, and packages should include return shipping tracking information.

How can I get a Bookstore catalog?

Currently, our catalogs are available in PDF format only. Please click on the "Download Our Catalog" link within the sidebar to view and print our catalog.

Is the Autism Bookstore website secure?

To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place an SSL Certificate and other appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Can I visit the Bookstore in person?

Yes, if you are in the Raleigh, NC area and would like to visit the bookstore in person, please call ahead for staff availability 1-800-442-2762. In general, we are open from 8am-4pm (EST) M–F except when we travel to site sales.

Please note that the bookstore is located on the ground floor of the building, the main office of the Autism Society of NC is on the 2nd floor.
