©1999. By Eric Schopler, Ph.D., Robert J. Reichler, M.D., and Barbara Rochen Renner, Ph.D. Developed by experts in the field of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), this well-known assessment tool will help educators, physicians, and other professionals identify children over the age of 2 who have ASD. This tool can be used to distinguish mild-to-moderate from severe ASD based on direct observation and parent reports, and it contains a 7-point rating scale used to rate 15 specific behaviors or skills such as: relating to people; body use; adaptation to change; listening response; verbal communication; activity level; nonverbal communication; level and consistency of intellectual response; and more. This instrument is widely utilized in the screening of ASD, and it provides quantifiable scores that are essential to the systematic diagnosis of the disorder. (Kit; 1 manual and 25 rating scales.)
