c2009. By Elizabeth Strickland, MS, RD, LD. Biomedical and nutritional treatments can be confusing and overwhelming for many parents with children on the autism spectrum. As a nutritionist with over twenty-five years experience in providing nutrition therapy, Strickland shares her expertise in a way that anyone can easily understand. She has developed a 10-step plan which parents and caregivers can walk through at their own pace. Each step includes an explaination of the step, the purpose, background information, how to impliment the step, and what professionals you may need to involve. The 10 steps walk through transitioning your child to a healthy diet, choosing vitamin and mineral supplements, resolving feeding problems, identifying food allergies, and high dose vitamin supplements. The book also includes highlighted words throughout which correspond to a glossary in the back, a full index, Appendix 1 – choosing a registered dietition, Appendix 2 – a list of foods with their categories, Appendix 3 – information on vitamins and minerals, Appendix 4 – IEP nutrition goals and objectives, Appendix 5 – data collection forms, Appendix 6 – nutritional detoxification plan, Appendix 7 – laboratory tests, and a list of additional resources. Also included are 75 Gluten-free/Casein-free recipes. (Softcover; 292 pages.)
