C2008. By Earl Hipp. Although this title wasn’t written specifically with autism in mind, it contains many strategies any teenager can use to help reduce the stresses of school, friends, and family, which the author calls “invisible tigers.” He explains the physical symptoms of stress and the effects long-term stress can have on one’s health, and he provides ten simple coping strategies (“tiger-taming techniques”), including exercise, good nutrition, relaxation exercises, time management, and a positive outlook, among others. Also included are suggested titles for further reading in each chapter, as well as a section on recognizing stress overload and knowing when to get help from a parent, teacher, or other trusted adult. The author is a trained clinical psychotherapist. Revised and updated edition. (Softcover; 133 pages.)
