C2009. By Nancy D. Wiseman, with Robert L. Rich. This book is a fantastic resource for parents of newly diagnosed children; even those who are a few years into their journey might find helpful information and resources within its pages. The book lays out a detailed blueprint of information to learn and steps to take after your child has been diagnosed, with items for each day of the first week, for each week of the first month, and for each remaining month of the first year. Each time point is broken down into two sections: Learning, which covers information to learn on such topics as early intervention, choosing the right doctor or therapist, and advocating for your child, and Living, which explains how to apply the information to your family. The author also founded First Signs, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating parents, doctors, and teachers on the early signs of autism. (Softcover; 343 pages.)
