c2006. By Ellen Sabin. The author created this book in a journal and scrapbook format to help children explore their thoughts and feelings about the death of a loved one, including how they miss and remember the person who has passed away. The text emphasizes that it's okay to have many different emotions about the death of a friend or family member, and that the process of grieving eventually leads to healing. Through engaging and thought-provoking activities, children are encouraged to write down their emotions, as well as identify questions they have about death, a funeral or a related event, and what happens to a person after he/she dies. The book also contains an important chapter about remembering loved ones, and it provides a series of questions for kids to answer (in words and drawings) about their relationship with the person who has died, the qualities of the person, and their special memories of the person. The book presents numerous ideas and strategies kids can use to help themselves feel better, and it also includes blank pages for creating a personalized journal and scrapbook, as well as additional information for adults. For readers ages 6 and up. (Hardcover; 61 pages.)
