c2007. By Jeff Sigafoos, Mark O'Reilly, and Berenice de la Cruz. This is a concise guide to video modeling and video prompting for parents, teachers, and therapists. Video modeling and video prompting are proven instructional methods that can teach individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) important skills in areas such as communication, social interaction, self-care, and functional living. Video modeling is a procedure that involves showing a whole-length videotape of a model completing a target behavior or a specific task, and video prompting is a form of video modeling that requires breaking the videotape into segments or clips and showing them one at a time to a student. The authors describe the types of learners who can benefit from these video-based techniques, and they define in sequence the steps involved in their implementation. Those steps include: selecting target behaviors; choosing the right equipment; writing a script or a task analysis; obtaining baseline data; making the video; arranging the teaching environment; presenting the video models and video prompts; monitoring progress; troubleshooting; and fading the video models and video prompts. The book also includes exercises, numerous examples, and a case study. (Booklet; 35 pages.)
This book is a title in the series PRO-ED Series On Autism Spectrum Disorders.
