c2008. By Laura A. Guli, Alison D. Wilkinson, and Margaret Semrud-Clikeman. Social Competence Intervention Program, or SCIP, is a structured 16-session social intervention program for young people between the ages of 8 and 14 who are on the spectrum. SCIP uses drama-based activities to help address social deficits. The participants take part in role-playing skits where they act out and interpret the emotions of characters. The activities are designed to help kids learn more about important aspects of nonverbal communication, including body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. (Softcover; 189 pages.)
