Illustrated by Kelly Knopp. According to the publisher, the purpose of the Superflex Social Thinking Curriculum is to motivate students to explore social thinking while increasing their knowledge of social expectations, their awareness of their own behavior and how to modify their behaviors with “superflexible” strategies. Just like all of Michelle Garcia Winner’s books this title is founded in the concept that students with autism need to be taught social skills and perspective taking explicitly whereas neurotypical children learn these skills intuitively. The curriculum includes 13 lessons and an extensive five part appendix along with a CD of reproducible worksheets for the whole class. Each lesson has a section for materials & goals, what you need to do before starting the lesson, and Handouts & Funwork. The lessons help each individual student figure out which “Unthinkable” invades their brain and how to formulate strategies to defeat their particular “Unthinkable” through flexible social thinking. The comic book’s hero is named Superflex. He is a super flexible social thinker who is always attuned to others’ perspective and he is always attempting to find solutions to social problems, i.e. help himself and others to overcome the “Team of Unthinkables.” (Curriculum: Softcover w/CD; 106 pages.
