c2005. By Michelle Garcia Winner. Michelle Garcia Winner, a speech-language pathologist specializing in persons with social cognitive deficits, presents this workshop on organizing schoolwork and homework for students who have difficulty organizing and completing academic tasks and daily life demands. Winner discusses her experience working with intelligent, capable clients who were having problems coping with initiating, prioritizing, planning, and executing daily tasks and assignments throughout the school year. She uses her 10 Steps of Organization to present the many challenges facing students in schools today and shows how each step helps students understand and persist through the most difficult of tasks. This presentation includes information on the following topics: organizing the environment; estimating time; creating action plans; mapping short-term and long-term assignments; and following through. These methods will help educators understand the need to explicitly teach organizational skills, so that students can succeed and show their true potential. One 32-page workbook is included with this DVD, and it contains the worksheets and handouts referred to during the presentation. This workbook contains a wealth of practical strategies, and as a result we are also making it available separately as a less-expensive, stand-alone resource (item # BSTR05). (Running time: 3 1/2 hours.)
