©2001. By Mary Jane Weiss, Ph.D. and Sandra L. Harris, Ph.D. This book was written for parents, teachers, and therapists, and it describes effective social skills programs for preschool and elementary school aged children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The programs that are outlined are based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which utilizes specific teaching methods to help children with ASD learn more effectively. The authors focus on four areas of social skills development: play; language-based social skills; understanding another person's point of view; and the development of social skills in an inclusive classroom. The book also includes a list of helpful resources. (Softcover; 225 pages.)
